Michele Yen

Mrs. Yen joined AVZ in 2017.  She was promoted to Manager – Government Services Specialist in August 2020.  She has over 35 years of accounting and auditing experience, including eight years with KPMG.  Her experience includes two years with the County of Nassau Comptroller’s Office and then eight years as their auditor.  She served as the Assistant Controller for the Epilepsy Foundation of Long Island for five years.  She has provided financial statement preparation services and client assistance to various municipalities and non-profits including closing out capital projects, grants management, and review of internal control systems.

Mrs. Yen was a Senior Audit Manager in KPMG specializing in the governmental and nonprofit practice. She was the Engagement Senior Manager for the County of Nassau’s financial and single audits; as such she assisted the County in obtaining the Government Finance Officers’ Association’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for their Comprehensive Annual Financial Report.

Mrs. Yen received her Bachelor’s Degree, with honors, in Accounting from St. John’s University in 1985 and was a founding member of the school’s Beta Alpha Psi Chapter (Accounting Honor Society).  She is a member of the Accounting, Auditing and Financial Reporting Committee of the New York State Government Finance Officers’ Association (NYGFOA).  She has also served on the following NYGFOA teams: Internal Controls Best Practices Project Team and Audit Committee Resource Guide Team.  Mrs. Yen serves on the New York State Society of CPAs (NYSSCPA) Government Accounting and Auditing Committee.  In 2016 and 2018 she was the Co-Chair of the Society’s Government Accounting and Auditing Conference.  She is also a member of the New York State Association of School Business Officials (NYSASBO) and their Nassau Chapter (NASBO), the Government Finance Officers’ Association (GFOA), the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Institute of Internal Auditors (IIA).  She is a member of the Institute of Management Accountants (IMA) and a Past President of the Long Island Chapter.

Mrs. Yen was Co-Presenter at the NYGFOA Government Finance Institute, Advanced Accounting Workshop.  She currently serves as the Secretary for her local school district’s Citizens Advisory Committee for Finance.
