Mr. Shillingsford has over 28 years of professional experience in accounting, auditing, and taxation for closely held businesses. He advises clients on financial reporting matters regarding newly issued accounting and auditing standards, tax planning and compliance, internal controls, management advisory services, strategic planning, business succession planning, business valuations and litigation support services. His wide-ranging client base includes manufacturing, wholesale, distribution, professional service-based companies, technology, and employee benefit plans.
John is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA), the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) and the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants. He obtained his Accredited in Business Valuation credential and is a member of the AICPA Forensics and Valuation Services Section. John is also a Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE) and is a member of the Association of Certified Fraud Examiners. He is Past-President of the Board of Directors for the NYSSCPA Suffolk Chapter and is past Vice President of the NYSSCPA Statewide Board of Directors. John is a registered representative who has passed the FINRA Series 7 and 66 exams and also holds a New York State Life and Health Insurance License.
He is a member of the Firm’s Business Valuation and Litigation Support Services Committee as well as the Quality Control Committee where he is responsible for the Firm’s Peer Review, updating the firm on newly issued accounting and auditing standards as well as the firm’s internal monitoring program. He is also responsible for monitoring the firm’s Employee Benefit Plan Audit practice as well as the Business Valuation and Litigation Support Services practice areas. He is an accomplished author, writing various articles based on his expertise. John received his Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting from Elizabethtown College in Pennsylvania in 1985.
