Alice Schildkraut - Goverment Services Specialist

Alice Schildkraut is the Government Services Specialist of Albrecht, Viggiano, Zureck and Company, P.C. (AVZ).  In that capacity she does financial reporting for many local governments and specializes in preparing Comprehensive Annual Financial Reports (CAFRs) for governments seeking the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) “Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting”.  

 

Prior to moving over to the private sector Alice spent 21 years in government.  She started out as an Accountant Trainee with the Town of Smithtown rising to the position of Deputy Comptroller before moving on to the Town of Huntington.  While at the Town of Huntington, she also served as the Deputy Comptroller, and received the first CAFR award for the Town.  Before retiring from government, and joining AVZ, she was the City Comptroller for the City of Long Beach.   During her career in government she worked for governments in various states of financial condition from fiscally stressed to highly liquid.  She has many years of experience working with banks, fiscal advisors, bonding attorneys and rating agencies.  She has a broad-based knowledge of NY State reporting requirements, Governmental Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (Governmental GAAP) and Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) statements.   She prides herself at keeping current and always being a leader in implementing new governmental standards.

 

Alice was the President of the IMA Long Island Chapter for the 2007-2008 chapter year and remains an active Past President.  She chaired the 2009 Financial Executive of the Year award dinner honoring the Nassau County Comptroller.  She has been a member of the IMA since 1989 and has held many board positions over the years including numerous directorships and executive board positions.

 

Alice has been very active in the Government Finance Officer’s Association (GFOA) serving as the Chair and Secretary of the Long Island region.  She sits on many New York State committees of the GFOA including the annual conference committee and co-chairs the membership committee.  She was a member of the committee charged with writing the “Internal Controls Best Practice” guide put out by NYSGFOA in 2006.  Alice is currently participating on the work group charged with the development of NYS GFOA’s core accounting curriculum under the Government Finance Institute’s Foundations Program.   Over the years she has served in several other capacities on both the NYS and local levels.

 

Alice is a member of the internal governmental quality control committee at the firm.

 

Alice earned her Bachelor of Business Administration Degree in Accounting from Dowling College.
