James P. O’Connor is a practicing attorney, with over 25 years tax experience. His practice concentrates primarily in the areas of estate & tax planning, and trust & estate administration. He is a Tax Principal for Albrecht, Viggiano, Zureck & Co., P.C., one of the largest full-service certified public accounting firms on Long Island, where his duties include client representation in federal and state tax controversies, trust and estate tax matters, and tax and estate planning.
Mr. O’Connor graduated with honors from Hofstra University (BBA-Accounting) in 1980 and began his professional career with the Internal Revenue Service in 1981. He obtained his Juris Doctor degree (Cum Laude) from Brooklyn Law School in 1988 and his Master of Laws Degree (LL.M) in Taxation from New York University in 1992.
He is a member of the New York State & Suffolk County Bar Associations, and admitted to practice in the United States District Courts and Bankruptcy Courts for the Southern and Eastern Districts of New York and the United States Tax Court. He currently is Co-Chair of the Suffolk County Bar Association’s Tax Committee. He regularly speaks at UJA’s Long Island Estate Planning Conference, and will be speaking at the AICPA Conference on Tax Strategies for High-Income Individuals in Las Vegas in May, 2010.
